Dharmazines reflect two key components of Buddhist thought: Interdependence and Impermanence. They are works of interdependence because they are made of many parts: cut paper, fragments of watercolor paintings, cyanotype and monotype prints. The parts balance each other and contribute their unique voices to the overall message.
Dharmazines also highlight the impermanent nature of all things. They are built on simple foundations, like used paper bags, and incorporate torn and cut images. Watercolor and monotype prints are visually blurry, offering traces of images that might be real, or might be a dream.
As for the words in the Dharmazine, these come from Buddhist texts, mantras, teachers, and my own musings/poetry. As I stamp the words, letter by letter, it's an opportunity to think about the teaching and what it means.
As a fledgling non-profit, we are aiming at this point to cover basic expenses like the website and printing. For this we are charging $5.00 each or 3 for $10.00. This is a donation you can pay via Venmo (at this point).
It's more important to share the art and get folks to participate in acts of kindness. If you are gifting a Dharmazine, please tell the recipient to visit our website so they can learn about our mission and log their act of kindness.
